Sutton Coldfield Golf Club in the sun

In late February the sun was shining, the crocuses were in bloom and the members were expecting high summer conditions on the course without delay. A week into March the rains have returned, the temperatures have dropped and those who have ventured onto the course return with red faces and tears in the eyes however, if our spirits are not lifted by more daylight, the promise of better weather to come and more spending in the Club then we are sad cases indeed!

REGIONAL AGM

We  reported on the Regional AGM in the last edition of this Newsletter but a much more comprehensive report by Graham Barker, the Assistant Secretary at Copt Heath, appeared in a recent National GCMA Newsletter. Phrases such as ‘informative’, ‘well presented’ and ‘inspiring’ are used by Graham to describe the presentations at the meeting. As he rightly concludes ‘the whole event was a day well spent’. Whilst on the subject of meetings, this is a reminder that the National AGM is to be held at Coxmoor Golf Club, Nottinghamshire on Monday 15 April 2019.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

The first match of the 2019 season is against the South-West Region at Clevedon Golf Club on Wednesday 1 May 2019 while the Spring Meeting will be held at Druids Heath Golf Club on Friday 17 May 2019.

More details on the Spring Meeting will be released in due course.

MATCHES

There has been an excellent response to our requests for members to play in the Regional teams this year although one or two of our ‘regulars’ have not yet raised their heads above the parapet. Some matches do not have a full complement of players and reserves frequently get a game for a variety of reasons.           

If you have not yet signed up, please do so!

COMPETITION

We will be holding a generous monthly competition on these pages with no fewer than three Titleist Pro V1 golf balls for the winner. Participants must be full members of the Midland Region and the winner will be the first to send the correct answer to the question below to the Editor at the e-mail address at the foot of this Newsletter. Answers by telephone, word of mouth, Twitter even smoke signals will not be accepted. Naturally the Editor’s decision will be final! Prizes can be retrieved from the Regional Manager who holds the stock. When we run out of supplies that’s it!

The first one is an easy one just to encourage you all.
