Rather belatedly I can report that our visit to the North West region to play one of the many fine golf courses in that area, and one which did not disappoint.
Heswall sits on the Dee estuary, and the views from the clubhouse are quite simply stunning, especially at sunset. The course was in excellent condition, and played for the most part in a 'zephyr' of a breeze (to quote a local), I would hate to play it when a proper breeze was blowing!
Sadly we were very roundly beaten, on a day when conditions perhaps suited our younger opponents, and the skills of the ex-professionals amongst their number, certainly came to the fore. But, as they say, it's not the winning that matters, but the taking part and the social interchange that always happens on these events. The club looked after us all very well, rounded off with a hearty North West steak & kidney pie with abundant chunky chips, to see us back on our way to the Midlands.
Next year this match will be played at Trentham, our first visit there for about four years.
Thanks to all who supported this event.
